Footballer sent off for tackling streaker
A video of a footballer being sent off - for tackling a streaker who had invaded the pitch - has become a hit on YouTube.
Ashley Vickers, 38, had the crowd on its feet for stopping streaker Alan Young, but the referee gave him a red card.
The invader had given stewards the slip as he raced around the pitch in a Borat-style wig and mankini for 30 seconds, halting the non-league match.
Eventually, Dorchester Town player/manager Vickers lost patience and wrestled Mr Young to the floor so violently that his wig flew off.
But ref David Spain saw the incident as violent conduct and sent off Vickers whose team went on to lose 3-1 to Havant and Waterlooville.
Vickers said: "I'm dumbfounded at being sent off. It beggars belief. The stewards got nowhere near him, I thought I was doing them a favour."
Havant and Waterlooville boss Trevor Brock said the incident at the team's Westleigh Park ground was "one of the funniest ever".
"It was a harsh sending off. But the ref acted by the law. Our stewards came on but they are middle-aged and had trouble catching the streaker."
Mr Young, 21, who streaked for a £100 bet, said: "I loved it. Probably a little too much. I didn't expect the tackle. He should play rugby. The stewards were fine. They even gave me my wig back."
