The 27-year-old, from Bedburg, Germany, was caught trying to load the pranged Volkswagen Golf onto the forklift while he was nearly twice the legal drink drive limit.
Astonished police who were driving by on patrol stopped and took the man into custody.
"It must have seemed like a good idea at the time," said one officer.
"He didn't want anyone to call us so he tried to move the vehicle himself. It was, though, very dangerous and illegal."
